Non-profit curator-run arts initiative Utopian Slumps is pleased to announce the opening of 'Label Land' by Ash Keating in association with Dianne Tanzer Gallery from 6 - 9pm on Friday 21 August 2009.
Ash Keating completed a BFA (Painting) at Monash University in 2003 and a BFA (Hons, Painting) at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2006. He is a current resident artist at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces and in 2008 completed an Asialink visual arts residency in Seoul, Korea.
Recent contemporary art projects include 'Activate 2750' through the MCA's C3West initiative, 'Label Land' produced through Loop Alternative Artspace, Seoul Korea, '2020?' at Arts House Meat Market, North Melbourne as part of the 2008 Next Wave Festival, and 'Parched', Mockridge Fountain, City Square Melbourne, 2007.
Ash's recent projects have explored intercepting, repositioning and manipulating commercial and industrial waste into installations and public actions. These projects are created to act as a bridge or a catalyst for alternative thinking surrounding dealing with the complex issue of climate change.
'Label Land' is a presentation of a photographic series drawn from the Label Land project produced during the Asialink residency in Seoul from 22 August to 5 September 2009.
